I’ll never forget the first time working with a client when I heard these words uttered:
“But… but… but…. Audra…. You don’t understand….
I. LOVE. FOOD.
The reason I can’t stop eating it is because I LOVE it!”
Her fear was legitimate.
She came to me holding onto about 80 pounds of excess weight (give or take), and while she saw me a mentor and coach who could help her along her journey, she also saw me as the person who was about to take away this love affair.
And in that moment… instead of trying to soothe her and make it all okay… I told her the truth:
“You don’t love food.”
