Audra's Best Body Challenge!

Has anyone ever felt like this before? Here’s the breakdown:

  • I get stressed out
  • Then I say…”just one coffee per day”
  • That turns into a coffee with a pastry on some days
  • Then that turns into a trip to the coffee house 2, sometimes 3 times a day to get a jolt of caffeine and sugar.
  • Now my hormone levels are totally off, my blood sugar is getting spiked and then dropping exponentially causing insulin surges, causing my mood to drop and my body to store fat.
  • Then, I wake up the next day lethargic and waiting for the next hit of caffeine and sugar.

Yup…this has been my life for the past few months.

The busier I am getting with my business, the more stress I am handling, the less I exercise, the more I eat.

And that’s my magic combination for weight gain, mood swings, major cravings, and overall lethargy.

And that’s what I’m sitting in right now. Well guess what???

I’M SICK OF IT!!!

I am totally and completely fed up with it all. And with the holiday’s here, I feel the potential for fighting an uphill battle. Here I am running a successful Bootcamp and nutrition business, stressed to the max and doing everything I’m not supposed to do.

So instead of nipping this in the bud and doing it all alone (which never works), I’ve decided that I’m going to do this very out loud. Here’s what I mean:

Number 1

I AM TELLING THE TRUTH, AND I AM TELLING THE TRUTH OUT LOUD! This is key as I see it.

If you ever want to change anything in your life, you have to stand up, tall and proud, and tell the truth about it. And that’s what I’m doing.

Number 2

I am seeking support and accountability.

The next real way to succeed is to surround yourself in a supportive environment and make sure you have accountability. I know this because it’s what I do for my clients all the time. It’s a huge reason why they are so successful. Once someone starts telling the truth about what’s really going on, then they make the full-hearted decision to do something about it, the next most crucial thing to do is be held accountable.

So here I am, fully deciding to get my butt back on track, but I’m doing it in a very different way: I’m going public.

You are going to see my transformation from beginning to end, over the next 4 months. I will be sharing through pictures and videos every single workout that I do. I will also be sharing every single morsel of food that enters my mouth. You will be a part of my journey back to a body that I am comfortable in (lets just say that I tried on my favorite pair of jeans yesterday and I couldn’t even get them up my legs! Now that would have been funny to get on video…)

Why?

  1. Besides the fact that it will fully and completely hold me accountable, I think if I share my journey with you, you will become inspired and maybe even do it with me.
  2. I am human! I want this to be an honest reflection of my physical, mental, and emotional strength, of which all wavers from high to low….and I want you to be a witness of that wavering.
  3. I want to show you what it takes in terms of exercise (less than most people think) and nutrition (more than most people think) in order to get the job done. You’ll see moments of strength and weakness along the path, but in the end all that really matters is that I stay on course and keep moving forward.

Dang it’s cold outside!!!

This morning at 6am, it was a crisp 43 degrees outside, according to my car. Beth’s car said it was 39. Yikes!!!

If you’ve never exercised outdoors in the cold, it can be a little nerve racking.

But here’s the truth: you don’t have to be a “hard-core crazy athlete” to workout in these colder conditions. (of course I think you are all super hard-core athletes…I’m just saying that you don’t have to shy away from the cold).

Once you learn that it’s all about proper gear and layering that gear, it can be so exhilarating.

Here’s all that matters:

  1. STAY WARM
  2. STAY DRY
  3. Numbers 1 & 2 happen when you layer moisture-wicking clothes.

Don't wear this to bootcamp

You can easily stay warm by wearing a huge down coat and layers of cotton shirts, but when you start sweating, you’ll have a hard time wicking the moisture from your body.

So start with a moisture wicking base layer, like a thin, long sleeved shirt (no cotton!). Then add maybe a vest, and then maybe a light, wind-proof jacket or pull-over over that. Fleece is also another option. Try different layers this week and see how it goes.

But the most important pieces of staying warm might be your gloves (I wear mittens), your hat, and maybe even a scarf. You almost could wear shorts and a t-shirt if you have your head and hands protected (…almost).

OOOO....I can't WAIT for 6am Bootcamp!!!

I also think it takes practice. The more you get out there and try different types of layers, the better you’ll get at staying warm, staying dry, and getting an awesome workout!

It’s a little chilly out there especially at the beginning, but 5 minutes in you’ll start to feel warmed-up and ready to kick some bootcamp booty! Oh yeah…I forgot to tell you maybe the most important reason why you want to keep kickin’ booty at bootcamp:

YOU BURN 20-30% MORE CALORIES WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS!

It’s true. While your body is already working hard to get you through a vigorous workout, it’s doing double-duty to keep your temperature regulated! I guarantee you that if you did the same workout indoors, you would be burning less calories than you do when you workout outside. Keep that in mind tomorrow morning!

Here’s a link to a blog I found about layering your clothes, and below are a few more pics I found to help you decipher your outdoor workout wardrobe!

Wind-stopper vests

This is a great outer layer.
